The FM SYNTH module is a 16-voice polyphonic synthesizer, with FM Synthesis technology, specially designed for the Legend ’70s / Legend ’70s MKII series pianos. The module is comprised of two different parts, each can be recalled with the respective selection button, consisting of totally independent FM synthesis units based on a 6-operator structure. The behaviour of the LFO and Pitch Envelope Generator faithfully reproduces the classic formulation of FM synthesis, allowing to programme iconic sounds that have characterised entire musical decades.FM SYNTH comes with 256 sounds (Timbres) organised into 8 types (Categories) comparable to the classic cartridges of the original FM synths. 6 cartridges are factory presets not overwriteable, while 2 are freely stored by the user. Each Timbre can be edited and stored in the 2 user cartridges. Then, the selected the Timbre along with all other parameters can be stored in the instrument’s Programs.The synth architecture is based on that of classic FM synths: 6 operators each with standard parameters for tuning, output level, velocity sensitivity, and amplitude modulation sensitivity,32 algorithms identical to the originals, 4 rates / 4 levels amplitude envelope generator and keyboard level scaling for each operator, pitch envelope generator for all the operators, LFOwith 6 selectable waveforms, adjustable amount of feedback operator, oscillator sync (waveform phase reset), voice mode (mono / poly), portamento.In add of these traditional settings, the FM SYNTH module features unique settings like stereo width, FM amount of modulant operators, a filter with adjustable cutoff frequency andresonance, general attack and release times. Read the Basics of FM synthesis section of the user manual to understand these settings and learn how they work to generate and shape the sound.Most of the sound generation parameters can be adjusted with the module panel controls. The main synthesis parameters are shown on the display, it is also possible to freely assign aparameter to each knob. Through the « Legend’70s Editor » application available for Windows, MacOS and iOS it is possible to control all the parameters and functions present in the FMSYNTH in real time and make the modification of new patches as simple as having a complete control panel. Thanks to the simple and intuitive interface of the Legend ’70s Editor, the control of FM SYNTH will be extremely comfortable and fast.
